There is no way of possibly describing it in a perfect way, but plainly said, it was legendary and the best weekend I’ve ever spent with my Ohana. Thank you so much KIWIN’S for giving me such an amazing opportunity to serve as your 2013-2014 District Governor. I wouldn’t have traded it for anything and I am hoping that all of you enjoyed this past year like I promised you would. For those of you who stopped me this past weekend at anytime and complimented me or the convention: It truly means so much and it warms my heart knowing that I did something right for you. This is when I know it was all worth it. DB POWERHOUSE lives on forever. You all make me so proud and blessed.

Fall Rally

FALL RALLY!! Two words that are music to my ears! First of all KIWINERS, I hope you all had fun! It was such a joy to see you all there!

My name is Karina Wang and along with Jacob, I am the proud co-head of the Special Projects Committee. Taking on such a huge task such as planning Fall Rally was definitely, not going to lie, really crazy. I didn’t really know what I was getting into when I first signed up. I knew it was going to be hard but I thought that if I could kind of breeze on through it. Definitely not what happened…haha. From 3 venue changes to last minute failures and miscommunication, it was a challenge that had to be done…just not with a breeze.

Planning Fall Rally consisted of countless phone calls, video calls, emails, etc. Luckily we didn’t procrastinate, and we got the main details done pretty early. It was crazy knowing that hundreds of kids counted on the work ethic and the ideas of two crazy and pretty dorky kids. Jacob and mine calls usually consisted of 30 minutes of work followed by 30 minutes of dance breaks…which is why I love him so much and couldn’t have asked for a better committee partner. J

We asked around members and we listened. Most of the people wanted more group activity and the chance to meet others. We hoped to bring that through icebreakers (which was crazy beyond words can express) and small games such as the dancing. We felt the members needed more recognition and needed more education about KIWIN’S in general. With that, we came up with the trivia game, the tri-folds, and Elaine’s awards.

Overall, as a District, we completely broke our record of Fall Rally attendees at over 850 people!!! (Last year we were at about 650). We have also raised over hundreds and hundreds of dollars for Pediatric Trauma Program. Compared to previous years, we have obliterated our records whoppingly!

Although these past 6 months were definitely crazy, I am so proud to be part of it. As I stood on stage, and I’m sure all of District Board could relate, I felt this instant love and passion from YOU GUYS that made me fully aware of why I love KIWIN’S. We are an Ohana, and I couldn’t ask for anything more. I hope you all enjoyed Fall Rally, and I hope that you know that YOU made an impact to this world.

Love always,
Karina

Fall Rally

Hey KIWIN’S!

Thank you to all the members who went out to Fall Rally North and South to support our minor emphasis, Pediatric Trauma Program! It has been an amazing experience serving as your Special Projects Fall Rally Committee co-head along with Turquoise Lieutenant Governor, Karina Wang.

Coming in as Diamond Lieutenant Governor, I was excited that I was put on the Special Projects Committee. However, I was even more excited when I found out my partner was Karina! Since day one we have been working non-stop with our committee partners Daniel Luong and SJ Yun, to plan Fall Rally North and South. That meant hours and hours upon Skype calls, emails, text messages, phone calls, etc. From the start the Special Projects committee was determined to make Fall Rally 2013 the best. Of course there were some obstacles along the way, but we got through it thanks to our awesome committee advisor Mr. Wallach! Truly without Mr. Wallach Fall Rally would not have been possible.

I am still in shock on how many members attended Fall Rally North and South. Both rallies combined had an attendance of 900 plus members! That’s a large contribution to the Pediatric Trauma Program!

Again, I am still in awe on the overall support and spirit of the KIWIN’S members at Fall Rally. The love and support you all show to our family and to our emphasis is truly inspiring.

It has been such a privilege serving as on the 2013 Special Projects Committee. I hope you all had fun losing your voices and hanging out with your fellow KIWIN’S Ohana. Thank you for all your awesome love and support and hope to see more of you at DCON 2014!

Finding Ohana

It is not flesh and blood but the heart which makes us family.

Grüßgott! Hola! Tchao! Привет! 你好! 안녕하세요! Whatever ethnicity, race, or gender you are… Hello! This is Vicki Nguyen, the corresponding secretary, from La Quinta KIWIN’s and to start off, how is everyone doing? Well if you ask me, I’m doing mighty fine! When the sudden topic of the Keeping Up With KIWIN’s came up, I immediately wanted to write something that meant so much to me in my heart and I think this applies to many other people as well. A lot of people ask me, “Why KIWIN’s?” or “What makes KIWIN’s the best club on campus for anyone to join?” And to be honest, it took me quite a while pondering over the endless possibilities of answering those questions. Why exactly did I join KIWIN’s and not any other club at La Quinta? I’m pretty sure every single person in KIWIN’s has come across this question from time to time.

To me, KIWIN’s is indescribable. It’s a mixture of happiness, fatigue, irritation (from early morning events), excitement, and a lot of weirdness all amalgamated together into this club. In my life, I’ve never witnessed the most awkward moments nor have I ever had every single weekend booked for projects to attend nor have I ever met the most peculiar people ever until I joined KIWIN’s. Now many may say, “Vicki, why in the world would you stay with KIWIN’s if you feel this way?” and I completely agree with those who feel that way, but all the inept moments that I have witnessed led to the most amazing memories in my life. All the endless projects we have every single week made me realize how much I love serving my community and others. And all the uncanny people I’ve ever met turned out to be some of the greatest people that have ever impacted my life. All of these things accumulated together is what makes me able to make me, me! And as cliché and stereotypical as that sounds, I’ve never come across a group that always had their arms open for me to join whenever I wanted to even if I wasn’t a member.
